1 c quick-cooking oats
1 ½ c boiling water
½ c shortening
1 c white sugar
1 c brown sugar
2 eggs
1 t salt
2 t baking soda
1 t cinnamon
1 ⅓ c flour
Topping:
1 stick butter
1 c brown sugar
¼ c canned milk
1 c nuts
1 t vanilla
1 c coconut
Mix together oats and boiling water. Let stand for 20 mins.
Cream together shortening and sugars.
Add 2 eggs, mix well.
Add oatmeal mixture and blend.
Sift together salt, baking soda, cinnamon, and flour. Add to creamed mixture; blend well.
Pour into 11x9 greased and floured pan.
Bake at 350 for 35 mins.
Topping:
Mix together butter, sugar, and milk. Cool.
Add nuts, vanilla, and coconut.
Spread on cake and put under broiler to brown.
